Huge Impact on Kiwis

Our government is negotiating an international agreement that could have a huge effect on the lives of ordinary kiwis. It’s called the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA), and it involves eleven Asian and Pacific-rim countries, including the United States. If it goes ahead, we risk damage to our innovative economy, our pristine environment, our health, and the ability to shape our own future.

Air NZ is Sexist

This is a CRAFTIVIST event in protest of the new Air NZ safety video that features swim suit clad woman insexualised poses. This video is a total objectification of woman, and is making woman passengers feel very uncomfortable, creating an unsafe environment for female staff and perpetuating a culture, that views woman as sexual objects for their pleasure. Also, this video has made passengers of Pacific Island and Maori culture upset due to the cultural appropriation.

In 2014 we would hope for better behaviour from a corporation that has been underwritten by NZ tax payers. This is not only ethically abhorrent but also incredibly bad for business as more and more woman are now refusing to fly with Air NZ.

In response we want to make paper planes to tie to fences and in radical shops, community groups windows, to conveying our rage. Please email us if you wish to participate and make some planes to send to up or drop planes off at Matchbox Gallery, 166 Cuba Street.

The first installation has been at The Freedom Shop, Newtown, Wellington.  

The paper planes not only have slogans but also comments from woman passengers, about how this safety video made them feel.

All I want for Valentine's is No more Rape!

In response the sort fall in funding to Wellington Rape Crisis last year and the Roastbusters' case,  we decided to express our rage at the Rape Culture that is insipid in our society, that harms high numbers of woman (cis and trans) every single day, and also, most importantly to send a message of support and love to rape survivors.

Valentine's is meant to be a celebration of love, however like other holiday festivals this sees the incident of rape rise.

Remember consent is not just about your partner saying yes,or bullying them till they do.  Consent it's an ongoing process when engaging with others sexually.  So remember to: ASK, LISTEN AND RESPECT your partners this Valentine's Day and everyday.

Pussy Riot Global Day of Action

In solitary with Melbourne Craftivists (http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/booksandartsdaily/pussy-riot/4185712), we decorated fences to protest the imprisonment of the Russian punk feminist band Pussy Riot.  This was part on  a Global Day of Solidarity, August 17th 2012, where countries saw protest, in Paris, Sweden, Germany, Poland, France, China, to name but a few.

Why are we protesting

Pussy Riot were imprisoned and not given a trial for 5 months, for singing a Punk Prayer in a Church.  They did this to protest the collusion of the Russian president Putin, with the church.

Transition Heathrow

We stumbled across these wonderful bunch of people and their amazing project, 'Transition Heathrow'.

A Community garden centre that was created from a waste land on the proposed new Heathrow Airport runway Terminal. Visit their blog here

We are delighted to announce that we our Giant Occupy blanket will be visiting them in London for a patch making workshop in June.

Mini Blanket # 2 begins its Australasian Tour

It's very exciting to share with you that the mini blanket #2 has started it's tour of Australasia!

The Blanket is currently display in the window of the Animal Op Shop (next to the Freedom Shop) in Newtown, Wellington. 

The blanket will stay here till after the Newtown Street Festival, when it then will spend time being displayed in shop windows around Australia and New Zealand.
